- This map is perhaps the first shot in the German war against the Treaty of Versailles. It illustrates a pamphlet entitled "Europe at the Abyss: explaining the main provisions of the Versailles Treaty and its effects." The Treaty was signed on June 28, and the book's introduction is dated June 1919.
The map itself is titled "The Dismemberment of Germany. East and West, 5-1/2 Million Germans Are to be Separated from the Nation." It shows the areas Germany was required to cede to other powers immediately, without plebiscite (in red); areas to be decided by plebiscite (in blue); the Saar Valley (in green), to be decided by plebiscite after 15 year of government by the League of Nations ("Fremdherrschaftalien - Alien Domination"); and areas still occupied.
Specific losses of commodities and food are detailed: coal, iron, potash, milk, bread, potatoes, butter (Herb 1997, 84-85).
