- Description:
- The woman in the photograph is most likely Penan due to her relative lack of clothing and the way the Keringot is positioned against her nostril. However, the Penan traditionally play the Keringot with both hands positioned on the outside of the flute. She is also wearing Selungan bracelets on one arm--wearing Selungan on both arms would be a sure sign of her Penan identity. In previous times, both men and women played the Keringut. However, it is very uncommon for women to be seen with it these days; the tradition itself seems to be dying out altogether.
