- Description:
- The man on the left is wearing an Udeng, an earring which is fashioned from a tusk. He also sports a Tekek (flint) around his waist, which indicates that he has not unpacked his family's belongings. The leaf has been sewn together to form an umbrella of sorts, as protection against the elements. The man appears to be Belait Nyakan, Franklin George's great-grandfather, and was regarded as a "moko kenin." This meant that he was considered a wise man of a higher class, and was not easily shaken. James Lalo is the nephew of the man on the left.
