- Description:
- This photo was likely taken in Long Kepang or Long Sait, during the period in which the Penan had not quite fully embraced settled life. The abundance of bangles worn by this man indicates that he has a good wife. The bangles could only be worn by men at the ankles, wrists, and shins. The avet (loincloth) was traditionally made from two types of tree bark: Nyawai and Beripun. However, the cloth avet he is wearing indicates that his photo was taken after the Japanese war (World War II).
