- Description:
- This photograph was taken sometime during World War II, during which there was no barter trading (trade resumed in 1946 and lasted until 1972). The girl is Kenyah and is not wearing a rattan bangle. If the headgear is made of rattan, it would be of Kenyah or Kayan origin. The bag is Penan, while the use of tree bark as pants indicates that they were still in the forest. Gaweng (a particular type of basket with no drawstring) is made of rattan. Kenyah or Kanyah don't usually travel to the forest, they usually stay by the riverside.
