- I need not say how much we regretted your inability to make [?]. Place[?] in the way, on your return to M.J. [?] family circle as well. We have in addition to it, one of Charles's children, his elder daughter. Charles is making a [?] time and can hardly say where he is or where we may see him again. [???] Your information in regard to my election is true, my majority is about 500. The office is a good one and sufficiently [?] to make a large [?] to one confident we shall not move until Spring. The [?] I am with offer what would ordinarily be considered a great inducement for one to stay in the shape of a particular [?]. The office is for two years with a prospect of a second term if found correct in [?]. one would be considered [??]. the other would be permanent in its nature and I am somewhat at a loss as to whether I shall put a Deputy in the office and remain here or take charge myself on the 1st Jan.
Our [lawed?] suit is ? slavery. We have possession of a past ? force lots and have every assurance that we shall get the whole in May next.
What ought I to do in this matter of business. Take charge of the office or accept the [?]. Please advice and accept assurances of best wishes of self and family.
