Jewish Lodges - Description:
- Draft of a letter to Harry S. Truman, President of the United States regarding Jews in Palestine. Notes escalating violence and calls upon the President to implement the U.N. Security Council Resolution of November 29th, 1947 in regard to the Mandate Power (Britain) and the partition of Palestine. Also calls for the lifting of the U.S. arms embargo. The cover letter to affiliated American Jewish Conference organizations requesting agreement to sign onto this message to President Truman is dated January 29, 1948.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
